Odermatt in front of Aspen – After powder and beer, the next ball beckons – Sports

Marco Odermatt was able to have a little fun after his overall World Cup win. But now he wants to start his next success in Aspen.

After the (also mathematically perfect) victory in the Overall World Cup, Marco Odermatt continues his rapid succession. There are already two giant slalom races on the program in Aspen. However, the man from Nidwalden did not miss the opportunity to enjoy his third victory a little in the intervening days.

on Instagram The traveler showed himself powder skiing in the USA, at the lake with a beer in his hand. “It's not always just about racing and winning… it's also about having a good time and enjoying life,” the 26-year-old wrote.

The high rider should be given that break, but on Friday and Saturday it's all about racing and winning again for him. Because in Aspen he'll be competing in the next giant slalom race – and as we know, there's almost nothing he can do but win.

You can see all three races from Aspen live on SRF:

  • Friday, Giant Slalom 1: The first replay is at 6 p.m., the second replay is at 9 p.m
  • Saturday, Giant Slalom 2: The first replay is at 6 p.m., the second replay is at 9 p.m
  • Sunday, slalom: The first replay is at 5 p.m., the second replay is at 8 p.m

This season he has finished all seven 'giants' as the fastest so far, and on Friday he could get the little ball in the fourth-to-last race of the giant slalom. His first pursuer, Croatian Filip Zubcic, has 314 points, less than half of Odermatt's tally of 700 points. This means: no matter what his rivals do, just 16th place is enough to secure another victory. However, based on the past, another victory can be expected.

Downhill ball is actually my biggest goal this season.

“So far it's been the perfect season in giant slalom. It's not because of the competition, it's just too close at times. But I always manage to motivate myself and give it my all. That's definitely not a given,” Odermatt says. He doesn't have any High doubt he will win the crystal ball in his major due to the obvious starting position.

That's why he puts little emphasis on speed controls, with only the races remaining in the World Cup finals in Saalbach and two other very realistic balls. “The last race is all about downhill. That's actually my biggest goal this season,” Odermatt says. The showdown with Ciprian Sarrazin will be “exciting until the end” – a welcome change, at least for ski fans.
