The Beatles captured people’s hearts in a flash in the 1960s. New photos from this period have now emerged.

Ex Paul McCartney releases old photos of his band members that were hidden from the public for decades. Three years earlier, McCartney had found 1,000 photos in his archives showing the band. He decided to publish 275 of them in a picture book.

The excavated photos were taken in 1963 and 1964. So exactly during the heyday of the strip. McCartney shot it himself with a 35mm camera.

Touching discovery

The images are from six cities the Beatles toured during this eventful time: Liverpool, London, Paris, New York, Washington, D.C. and Miami.

This was cool because it took me back in time and to different people.

Many behind the scenes photos were taken. There are also previously unknown photos of band members John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

The ex-Beatle says the rediscovery of the images was poignant: “It was great because it took me back in time and to different people.”

in a whirlpool of change

In addition to photographs, the book “1964: Eyes of the Storm – Portraits and Reflections” includes stories by Paul McCartney. The now 80-year-old describes how the Beatles fared in the heated political period of 1964.

It’s a time of global upheaval and change – and four youngsters from Liverpool are right in the middle of it. The band conquers people’s hearts in no time. They release one hit after another and gather thousands of fans around them. This phenomenon explains the name of the book.

“I was thinking of ‘eye of the storm’ in the singular because the Beatles were in the eye of a storm they created,” McCartney said. Further: “But when we looked at the pictures, I thought it was more of many eyes than just one.”

The book was published on Tuesday, June 13th. The photos will also be shown at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
