Munich wants to declare Oktoberfest a cannabis-free zone. “Cannabis simply has no place at Oktoberfest,” Clemens Baumgartner, spokesman for the Oktoberfest in Munich, told the Web.de portal after Tuesday's report. He added: “A family celebration like Oktoberfest and cannabis consumption are not compatible for me.” He wants to declare Oktoberfest a no-cannabis zone, similar to pedestrian zones or beer gardens. However, there should not be any checks on Oktoberfest visitors for cannabis.

The partial legalization of cannabis has been in effect since April 1. Controlled possession and cultivation for private use is permitted, but with numerous restrictions. Possession of 25 grams of dried cannabis in public places remains unpunished. Cultivation and distribution should initially be done through farming associations. When growing at home, up to 50 grams and three plants are allowed.

The state of Bavaria wants to enforce the cannabis law “restrictively” and impose “harsh fines,” Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) announced. There are also plans to create cannabis-free zones.
