Basketball: Embiid in Paris for USA
American basketball players can count on Joel Embiid, and thus another star at the Paris Olympics. According to his club, the Philadelphia 76ers, the NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) has committed through 2024. The Cameroon native could also have competed for his national team or host nation France. In 2022, the 29-year-old obtained dual French and American citizenship. Kevin Durant (Phoenix) recently gave a strong commitment to Paris. Other top players like LeBron James, Anthony Davis (both Los Angeles Lakers), Stephen Curry (Golden State) and Paul George (Los Angeles Clippers) have shown their willingness.
Rugby: New Zealand qualifies for the quarter-finals
New Zealand, three-time world champions, have reached the quarter-finals of the Rugby World Cup in France. In their last match in the preliminary round, the All Blacks defeated Uruguay 73-0, topping Group A by 15 points over the French. This means it is no longer possible to knock New Zealand out of the top two.
