More films are already being planned

The first animated film starring Nintendo’s most iconic hero to hit theaters and it’s undoubtedly a huge hit. So no one will be surprised that the video game giant is planning more movies.

In 1993, a movie titled Super Mario Bros. was released. It stars Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo, and Dennis Hopper. That was a disaster like no other and not only did it “burn” Nintendo for decades, it was truly symbolic of the fact that games and cinema are incompatible.

It may have taken what seemed like an eternity, but 30 years later that has changed. Responsible for this are not only some very successful feature film adaptations like the Sonic and Pokémon: Master Detective Pikachu movies, but also The Last of Us series, which have been well received by critics and audiences alike.

And the honor of the Super Mario movie is being restored, because Nintendo’s plumber is currently celebrating a huge success. The animated movie has grossed $871 million worldwide and will surely smash the billion dollar mark. Of course, this also pleases the video game company and it wouldn’t surprise anyone that Nintendo is already eyeing the future of Mario & Co. in cinemas. Mario’s father Shigeru Miyamoto has also already hinted that there will be more movies. On the other side Nikki (via VGC) The Nintendo legend said the company is already looking forward to more movies. However, this does not mean that Mario and Luigi are moving on again.

Because Miyamoto said, “Please stay tuned for our next production.” This time Mario was the focus, but “Nintendo is like a talent agency. We have so many other artists on our roster,” said the 70-year-old. He did not elaborate, but said, “There are different ways of developing screen characters, including those that fit the film and those that are already known.”
