Next week, Overwatch McCree will get a new name.
Popular Note and watchThe character Jesse McCree will get a new name next week.
It is a result of Legal action California against publisher Activision Blizzard for gender discrimination and sexual harassment.
Why is McCree renamed?
Like many other characters in the Blizzard games, McCree is named after a fellow. The real Jesse McCurry is said to have been part of the studio’s toxic work culture and left the studio in the wake of recent events.
To avoid being associated with him, Blizzard brought him back in August announceTo change the name of the character in the game.
And now it’s clear what new name the character will have: Cole Cassidy. The change will be implemented as part of an update on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.
Blizzard changes its policy
McCree is not the only character who has changed. Blizzard had previously confirmed that it would also remove references to other employees from its titles, namely Luis Barriga, the former game manager of Diablo 4and Jonathan Likeraft, former designer world of warcraft.
Additionally, the company confirmed to The Washington Post in August that in-game characters should no longer be named after future employees.
