The 29-year-old American won the Grand Slam in Los Angeles with a one-shot lead over Rory McIlroy.
In the final round at the Los Angeles Country Club, Windham Clark and Rory McIlroy had an exciting duel. The initial decision was made on the 14th hole, a par 5. While McIlroy had to accept a stroke loss, Clark played birdie on the same hole, putting him three strokes ahead of his opponent. In the end, the American had a one-stroke lead with a total of 270 shots.
First big win for Clark
For Clark, this is the first victory in a Grand Slam tournament. The 29-year-old won only his first win on the PGA Tour at the beginning of May, thus qualifying him for the US Open. In his previous six appearances in the major championships, he had never finished higher than 75. The 34-year-old McIlroy, on the other hand, has to wait for his first major win since 2014.
The other competitors were held off very early in the final lap. World No. 1 Scotty Scheffler (USA) didn’t score at par in the final round, and in the third, he eventually lost by 3 strokes to Clark.
