Lufthansa First Class neu

Lufthansa introduces the new First Class with doors

that Lufthansa I’ve been working on a new cabin for a while and it’s not new. Having had a few photos so far, the company took the cat out of the bag for the first time today. There are several new images for First Class, Business Class and Economy Class.

The highlight is the new First Class, about which hardly any details have surfaced yet. Now we see a suite with high doors and walls that offers an unprecedented level of privacy. And a huge screen in it.

The new cabin lives up to its name Allegress. It comes with a new design style that focuses more on the dark blue color. So Lufthansa is orienting itself a bit away from sterile grays and whites – and getting rid of the yellow spots too.

New first class with doors

Unlike other airlines, Lufthansa does not intend to give up first class permanently. Since the current first-class seat is already a few years old, the replacement is quite appropriate.

As the photos show, the new First Class offers an enormous degree of privacy thanks to the meter-high walls. In addition, it is noted:

  • The combination of dark blue furnishings with light wood elements is harmonious and very elegant
  • It is still possible to have dinner together, then the second person sits on the opposite seat
  • Screen (over approximately 30″ diagonal) occupies almost the entire width of the seats
  • The red rose remains the trademark of Lufthansa First Class

New business class photos

The new business class was announced by Lufthansa a few years ago. At the time, this was one of the reasons why SkyTrax upgraded Lufthansa to a 5-star airline.

Accordingly, there is not much new here. As is already known, Lufthansa does not rely on what is now usual reverse zigzag-Planning. Instead, the seats are staggered so that you sit in single rows throneA bench with a particularly large storage space. Each passenger has direct access to the driveway, so no one has to climb over their neighbours.

There is one in the front row Business Suite With lockable doors. Passengers have to pay an additional fee for this as well.

Premium Economy Class with Bucket Seats

There is no new information on Premium Economy Class. In any case, the Swiss have been flying in the air with the same seats for several months, that is, there are no surprises.

The new seats are bucket seats, that is, the back wall of the seat is fixed and the backrest moves forward instead of back. What looks cute can cause problems for people with long legs,

Sleeping sofas come in Economy Class

For a long time, Lufthansa has been getting passenger reviews about sofas that can turn into beds in economy class. The time will come soon and the product will be officially launched. Economy Class passengers can then reserve a seat with a leg rest at an additional cost. This pillow can be folded, resulting in a short but at least very wide lying surface:

The unusually wide and angular headrest still raises a question mark for me. Other than that, the seats look a lot like what we already know from the A350 – with a larger screen.

Existing aircraft are diverted

On the other hand, the new cabin will be installed in the new Boeing 787-9, Airbus A350 and Boeing 777X aircraft that Lufthansa will receive in the coming years. In addition, existing aircraft will also be converted.

Lufthansa explicitly mentions the Boeing 747-8, which will likely remain a Lufthansa business for a long time to come. But other planes should also get the new cabin. It will certainly take a few years to convert all aircraft.

conclusion

It doesn’t matter if it’s first class or business: unlike competition from the Middle East, Asia and the like, Lufthansa’s current tough product simply looks outdated. The refreshment in the cabin is only a logical and long overdue outcome.

Pictured, the new First Class offers more than I thought Lufthansa was capable of. Perhaps Lufthansa will indeed be able to regain the status of a premium airline. But something has to be done in the back, in the economy.
