  • Billionaire and Sunderland owner Kirill Louis-Dreyfus is getting into motorsport.

  • The 26-year-old from Zurich has bought shares in the official Motocross Championship.

  • “Exciting opportunities for the emerging championship,” Louis-Dreyfus was quoted as saying.

The organizer of the FIM World Supercross Championship, SX Global, has confirmed the sale of its company to an investment group led by sports investors Kyrill Louis-Dreyfus and Juan Sartori. Together with SX Global CEO Adam Bailey, they form the new ownership and leadership group.

Louis-Dreyfus? exactly. The Frenchman, who grew up in Zurich, is the billionaire heir to the multinational agricultural and raw materials conglomerate Louis Dreyfus and, despite his young age (26), has long been an investor in the world of sports. And he has done so successfully: since 2021, he has owned shares in the traditional English crisis club Sunderland, and since 2022, he has been a majority owner of the shares.

Under the control of the Zurich player, the club from the north-east of England returned to the second highest league and also stabilized financially. Louis-Dreyfus also owns shares in Olympique de Marseille and the e-sports organization Ovation. And now getting into motorsport.

“There is a lot to be done”

“We have identified exciting opportunities for the emerging tournament, and we can’t wait to bring the excitement of this sport and the talent of these amazing athletes to even more people around the world,” Louis-Dreyfus was quoted as saying in a media release. There is a lot to do, but the group is looking forward to the challenge.

Juan Sartori and Louis-Dreyfus are an established team. The Uruguayan is also co-owner of Sunderland. Specific plans and initiatives will be announced at a later date, Sartori comments. But he promises: “Fans can look forward to the ultimate fan experience and world-class racing championship.” It is not known how much money the group invested.
