Inter wins over Atletico – PSV Eindhoven draws with Borussia Dortmund

Inter Milan travels to Madrid to play the second leg with a narrow margin. Meanwhile, everything remains open after the 1-1 draw between PSV Eindhoven and Borussia Dortmund.

Nothing happened from the long-range duel between the Swiss national team goalkeepers Yann Sommer and Gregor Kupil. The latter felt muscle problems during the match, and as a precaution, decided not to play in the first leg against PSV Eindhoven. Alex Meyer, who is six years his senior, replaced the 26-year-old in BVB's starting lineup.

That was the focus in the 56th minute when PSV Eindhoven were awarded a rather impressive penalty kick. Mayer chose the right corner of the goal, but Luuk de Jong's shot was in the right place. However, that was not enough for the Dutch, who are yet to lose in the domestic league and lead the standings by ten points from their first pursuers.

The fact that they traveled to Dortmund for the second leg without a cushion was due to their timid performance in the first half. They fell behind in the 24th minute, with the goal scored by Donyell Malen. The Dutch international player wore the colors of PSV Eindhoven for four years before moving to Borussia in 2021.

In the other round of the round of 16, Inter Milan achieved a deserved victory, but by a narrow margin, over its guest, Atletico Madrid, 1-0. The only goal of the match was scored by Marko Arnautovic, who came on as a substitute in the first half, in the 79th minute. This was a relief for the 34-year-old Austrian, who had previously missed several chances. Among other things, he shot over the goal from close range in the 63rd minute.

There wasn't much to see for Yan Sommer. It took a good hour before the Serie A leaders' goalkeeper intervened. He suffered a collision that caused him to lie down for a short period this summer, but he was able to continue playing after that. This was his 21st clean sheet of the season.
