It’s the face of Do You Understand the Fun?: Guido Kantz (49). For twelve years, he hosted the comedy show and mocked his guests – but it’s over now. As evidenced by a press release from Südwestrundfunk, Kantz will only be broadcast through December.
“I will turn 50 in August, and of course you look back, but above all also to the future,” says the artist, who even appears on the logo. Kantz has now managed over 55 editions of the format – more than any other. Not even Kurt Felix (1941-2012), the inventor of Do You Understand the Fun? He was often in front of the camera for the show.
Coordination is back with a new concept
“I will never forget my extraordinary stints as booby traps, the many great guests on the couch, and of course the highlight, the show’s anniversary show,” Kantz recalls. However, fans can breathe a sigh of relief, and the Saturday night show will continue to be broadcast. Next year coordination should return with a new concept.
SWR Program Director Clemens Bratzler, 49, explains: “I would like to thank Guido Kantz for his great commitment and many ideas. The fact that ‘Do you understand the fun?’ is now very popular with youngsters in particular and has more followers on YouTube than any other ARD format thanks to it as well. “
Guido set special standards as a deceptive decoy. “If you stop now, SWR’ do you understand the fun?” It will regenerate and evolve again – as it has so often done in its more than 40-year success story,”
Blackfacing-Skandal bei «Happy Day»
According to SWR, the station wants to focus more on social media in the future. On YouTube “Do you understand the fun?” Already successful. More than 1.3 million people watch pranks. Now the station also wants to be a hit on Instagram and Facebook. Social media and television should be linked more closely. It’s currently unclear who will run the show from next year and what exactly it will look like.
The show has caused an uproar in the past. In 2016, the creators drove SRF presenter Röbi Koller (63 years old) to the brink of despair with a racist joke on his show “Happy Day”. Kantz painted himself black at the time and pretended to be the wanted father of Von Koller’s guest. (BSN)
