Football – Competition for the German Confederation: America and Mexico want the 2027 Women’s World Cup – Sports

Frankfurt/Main (dpa) – The German Football Association (DFB) is drawing more and more top-flight competition into its joint bid with Belgium and the Netherlands for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. The United States and Mexico want to host the tournament together, the two federations have announced.

Brazil and South Africa had previously expressed interest. This must be registered with FIFA by Friday, and the official confirmation deadline is May 19.

FIFA: “Difficult and thorough application process”

The host of the World Cup will be appointed by the FIFA Congress on May 17, 2024. Germany has already hosted the 2011 Women’s World Cup. Next year, the DFB will host the men’s European Championship. The next Men’s World Cup will be held in the USA, Mexico and Canada in 2026. The women’s tournament that can be partially held in the same stadiums just one year after the Men’s World Cup will be the first in FIFA history.

FIFA wrote about the “most rigorous and comprehensive bidding process” for the Women’s World Cup tournaments in FIFA’s history. This year’s World Championships will be held in Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20. The FA, along with the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) and the Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA), were the first to submit their candidacy for the 2027 World Cup.

The Common Application has been in the works since 2020, the motto should be “BNG” for “Breaking new ground”. The three letters also refer to the English names of the nations “Belgium”, “Netherlands” and “Germany”. The German Football Association has already decided on possible match cities Dortmund, Duisburg, Dusseldorf and Cologne. Federation President Bernd Neuendorf declared: “We are going to promote it, even outside Europe. We are very determined to tackle the issue well – internationally and globally.”
