Canadian rising star Felix Auger-Eliassem admitted he had a chance to win the first set against Christian Garen but failed to seize his chances. Auger-Aliassime had put a break in the first set against Jaren and had four set tops, but he couldn’t see that when Jaren stole the first set in the tiebreak.
Garen won 7–6 (3), 6–1. “I had a lot of chances to win the group and I didn’t,” Auger Aliassim told reporters at Tennis Major. It wasn’t a bad game after the first set, but it was disappointing.
Things got more complicated in the second sentence. Auger Aliassim began his partnership with Tony Nadal in a bewilderment. “In the last month of last year, I began to think that there might be an opportunity in the future for me to work with someone who has a lot of experience at the highest level,” said Auger Aliassim.
“We were fortunate enough to be able to contact Tony. I am very happy to learn from him, benefit from his experience and work with him. Of course there is a lot to do, but the connection is good and I am very happy.”
