- Livia Kaiser comes in a strong fourth place at the European Figure Skating Championships in Kaunas (LTU).
- In fourth place after the short program, the 19-year-old gave her all in the free skate. In the end, 7.57 pips of precious metal are missing.
- Kimi Ripond, the second Swiss woman in the competition, is in seventh place.
Livia Kaiser burst into tears after taking her final turn on the ice. They were tears of joy because she knew: This was an excellent performance. The 19-year-old, from eastern Switzerland, ranked fourth in the short program and took the lead in the free skate with a total of 194.72 points.
Two medals for Belgium
But the best athletes still have their work cut out for them, and thus the Swiss have been pushed away from the top of the world rankings. In the end, Kaiser was happy with a strong fourth-place finish. A year ago, in her first appearance at the European Championships, she finished 18th in Espoo (Finland).
The gold medal was won by Louina Hendricks of Belgium (213.25 points), which had to settle for silver in 2023. Anastasia Gubanova (GEO, 206.52 points) and Nina Pinzaroni (Belgium, 202.29 points) completed the podium.
Response is below expectations
Kimmy Repond's freestyle was less successful. The 17-year-old from Basel finished eighth in the preliminary heats. When making the decision, she tried to make the most of it, but made some small mistakes. In the end, that was enough to get seventh place (180.82 points), which means she missed her stated goal of getting a European Championship medal.
