1. FC Kaiserslautern’s first friendly match against Louisville City a week ago (2-1) was affected by heavy rain, and the game at the end of the trip to the USA was also affected by storms. The half-time break lasted about 60 minutes, during which the stands were destroyed by several lightning strikes near the ground.
Before that, the crowd at the sold-out Allianz Field (19,616 spectators) saw an entertaining game in which FCK took the lead after four minutes. Just like in the first game, Boyd, a former US international from Lattern, was on target when he netted the final score with a brace.
Double shout for Minnesota
After the hosts initially missed an early equalizer with a free kick, the Red Devils’ defence, in which newcomers Bouchoux and Elvedi were celebrating their starting eleven debuts, suffered a double blow moments later. Garcia scored first (23′) before Jeong turned the game in the home side’s favor a minute later.
In a fast-paced game, both teams had chances after the long break, but the hosts narrowly prevailed. Dirk Schuster’s side now return home this Thursday, where they await Norwich City (July 15, 2 pm) and FC 08 Homburg (July 22, 2008).
This is how 1. FC Kaiserslautern played: Luthe – Zimmer (46th Durm), Tomiak, Elvedi, Puchacz (46th Zuck) – Niehues (46th Bunning), Ritter (68th Gibs) – Opoku (41st Hercher), Klement (46 Hanslik), Redondo (46 Solinsky) – Boyd (46 Lobinger)
