In the round of 16 of the Asian Cup, Iraqi Ayman Hussein received a controversial yellow and red card, and Jordan turned the match around in stoppage time.
Jordan reached the quarter-finals of the Asian Confederations Championship with a double in stoppage time against Iraq. Yazan Al-Arab (95) and Nizar Al-Rashdan (97) scored 2:2 and 3:2.
Grazing with consequences
But there was one scene in the 78th minute that was particularly worth talking about: Iraq's Ayman Hussein sat on the grass after leading 2-1 and pretended to eat grass. Jordanian Yazan Al-Naimat celebrated his 1-0 goal in the first half in exactly the same way.
Iranian referee Ali Reza Faghani did not find the tradition funny and showed Hossein, who had previously been warned, the colors yellow and red for “excessive celebration.” The Jordanians were fine with that and were able to turn things around.
