Some talk about a multi-hacking tool, others talk about Tamagotchi for hackers: when it was announced about two years ago, the Zero pinball machine, designed in a hacking space in Moscow, caused not only a stir, but also suspicions: there was speculation from the very beginning. about whether the product will ever be launched and whether it delivers on what it promises; After all, there have often been crowdfunding campaigns that have turned out to be nonsense.

Now the pinball number has arrived at the editorial office. Before the detailed tests started there, the c’t-3003 team produced a video with the first steps (see above).

The device looks valuable and comes with a screen that is easy to read even in bright places. The beautiful design with moving dolphin makes you in a good mood while hacking. In a quick hands-on session, the infrared transceiver was easy to learn and use to control devices such as speakers and televisions. Plus, hands-on worked right away: Bad-USB functionality with Rubber Ducky compatible scripts, PC remote control with Bluetooth (here the Pinball Zero pretends to be a Bluetooth keyboard) and NFC card reading.

Reading 125 kHz RFID tags or tags did not work right away. According to the documentation, Pinball Zero supports the EM4100, EM4102, H10301 and Indala models. Pinball Zero does not recognize various access cards. Tests planned for the next few weeks will show if this is due to the device or the cards. Tests with iButton switches, GHz radio subsystems, and GPIO interface are also planned.
