Former Schalke pro Weston McKenney has been banned for four international matches after the USA-Mexico match was marred by red cards and homophobic chants. His team-mate Sergino Test will see out three games. North and Central American soccer confederation Concacaf banned Mexican players Cesar Montes and Gerardo Arteaga for four and three games respectively.

The quartet was shown a red card in the USA’s 3-0 win in the Nations League. While Montes and Arteaga are part of Mexico’s squad for the upcoming Gold Cup, McKenney and Test are not on the U.S. team. For them, sanctions are practically without consequences. The Americans open the tournament in Chicago with a game against Jamaica.

The scandal surrounding the encounter against Mexico in Las Vegas included homophobic chants from Mexican fans. So the game was interrupted in the final stages, and the extra time scheduled by the renewed song was not completed.
