After the huge success of “Barbie,” leading actress Margot Robbie is planning her next big hit: a movie based on the classic board game “Monopoly.”
She is developing the film with her company LuckyChap and partners Tom Ackerley and Josie McNamara. Hasbro Entertainment, the maker of the game, is also there. They have not revealed anything about the film's story yet.
It was also announced last month that Robbie wants to bring the popular video game “The Sims” to the big screen as a cinematic version.
“Barbie” was the highest-grossing movie of 2023. Last but not least, toy giant Mattel made a huge amount of money from this blockbuster movie. Whether it's dolls, shoes or toys: movies based around branded products are currently trending in Hollywood and are the ultimate product placement.
Since the Barbie movie, Margot Robbie has enjoyed a wave of success in the world of toys and fantasy worlds. She, along with her husband Tom Ackerley and other partners, have produced hit films such as “I, Tonya” and “Saltburn” and series such as “Maid” and “Dollface” since 2014. The purpose behind their work is “expanding the possibilities of women's stories in Hollywood.”
