After the bankruptcy of the giant Sölden
Oasis brawl: “Shame”
Starting the season with a home race – there is hardly anything nicer. Unless you can’t live up to expectations. Just like the Austrians who lived in the giant slalom in Sölden.
1/7
The Austrians surrounding Manuel Feller are not familiar with the pace at the start of the season.
From the Swiss point of view, the new ski season could not have started better. Marco Odermatt (25) outperformed the competition in Sölden (Austria) and He drives ahead of the giant slalom victory.
The mood of the hosts is completely different. The Austrians are disappointed. Nobody beats the top 10, the best is Marco Schwartz (27) in 13th. And it doesn’t look bad after the first round. Manuel Feller (30), who finished third in the giant slalom standings last year, is only twenty off the podium in fifth. In the end, he’s only 16th and he’s self-critical. “It was just bad skating. Point.”
“My hump hurts”
With his second failed run, he gave up his good starting position. “Maybe it was too much,” Feller quarreled. “On a very steep slope, there was not a single turn. My hump hurts because I’m in every punch.” In the end, the Austrian finds clear words: “In the second round it was almost embarrassing.”

However, this is not the first time the Austrians have disappointed at the start of the season. In 2019 and 2020, too, it seemed in vain for them in the top ten. The only exception last year was Ronald Leitinger (31) in second place.
“The result looks a little dumb,” says Marco Pfeiffer. The new Austrian coach remains optimistic. “I think we underestimated ourselves.”
Check it out and go ahead
In any case, they will not bury their heads in the sand. Feller explains this, too. Now you will analyze everything and make a plan for improvement before the next race. Because: “The best thing I do is check the races and keep going. I have shown that many times in the past.” He goes further and says, “We’re going to have something to celebrate, I promise.”
It remains to be seen if he can actually fulfill that promise. Anyway, he still has some time until the next giant slalom. This won’t go up until December 10th in Val d’Isere (Friday). (bear)
