AIDS Helve Vienna and Wiener Lenin: joint efforts to combat HIV-related stigma and for solidarity

On December 1, World AIDS Day, the Viennese pumice stone will once again raise the AIDS flag Helvi Vienna.

Vienna (OTS) – Medical advances and effective antiretroviral treatments have positively changed life with HIV in Austria – despite being infected with HIV, a fulfilling life is entirely possible with effective treatment. But the stigma of people living with HIV has not been completely eliminated, says Andrea Brunner, executive director of AIDS organization Helve Vienna. Therefore, it emphasizes the importance of enhancing the quality of life of those affected through effective removal of stigma. On the occasion of World AIDS Day, which falls on December 1, AIDS Helve Vienna calls on people to take a stand against the exclusion and unequal treatment of people living with HIV.

“The red ribbon symbol represents solidarity with people living with HIV, and there is still a great need for this solidarity. Despite significant medical advances, people living with HIV continue to experience discrimination and exclusion. We are therefore very happy to continue the science campaign in cooperation with Wiener Linien and we would also like to thank all the other supporters of our awareness campaigns on the occasion of World AIDS Day.“, confirms Andrea Brunner, Managing Director of Aids Hilfe Vienna.

“Wiener Linien campaigns for tolerance and solidarity. With flags flying on more than 500 of our trams, we are once again sending a clear signal of fair coexistence and against discrimination this year.“, says Alexandra Reinagle, General Manager of Wiener Linien.

Aids Hilfe Vienna contributes to reducing new HIV infections through targeted prevention, provides anonymous and free HIV testing, and supports people living with HIV/AIDS with a multidisciplinary team of experts.
