In the Youth Square in Eisenhotenstadt (Oder Spree) graffiti artworks for the project “In the Square, Get Ready, Go!” smeared unconstitutionally. This was announced by the city and police on Thursday.
According to the police, 25 swastikas have been discovered so far. According to the city, the former “V School”, a department store and the Am Anger Club were also affected by the vandalism.
The mayor of Eisenhötenstadt, Frank Balzer (SPD), laments that the art created by youth and clubs has been harmed by extremist symbols. The city distances itself from this anti-constitutional ideology, and extremism should have no place, so Balzer. Meanwhile, the symbols became unrecognizable. The police have obtained the evidence and are investigating the culprits.
Project “Get Ready, Set, Go!” Created in May by the Museum of Utopia and Everyday Life and the Kulturerbe DDR eV Forum. The aim was and remains to prepare the Youth Arena for the Bokulture events as part of the Brandenburg Year of Culture. The slogan for the city’s weekend festival is “The Cottage Celebrates Diversity.”
