Only 25 percent of flights are on schedule
These airports have the largest number of delays
Countless airports this summer are experiencing delays and staffing problems. Blick shows where the situation is currently at its worst and at its best.
There is a 55/45 chance that your next flight will depart on time. as such Data from Eurocontrolthe European Aviation Safety Organization, shows that on a weekly average, only 55.3 percent of all flights are currently taking off as planned.
Chisinau Airport in Moldova is currently the least punctual, with a quarter of all flights currently taking off on time. This is followed by Manchester in the UK and the German airport in Dusseldorf, with a third of the planes taking off on time. The situation is not much better in Frankfurt, Lisbon and Tel Aviv either.
Switzerland in the middle
London Gatwick Airport, a long-running problem in the media due to the chaos at the airport and massive staff shortages, has yet to be brought under control. Not even four out of ten flights leave Gatwick on time. Other airports with less than half of the scheduled departure flights are Nice, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Berlin Brandenburg, Brussels and Munich.
Zurich Airport in Kloten ZH is currently on average accurate. Basel-Mulhouse is a little better with punctuality at 60 percent, and in Geneva it even goes up to 66 percent. In comparison, Switzerland is slightly better than other European countries. The countries that are currently least on schedule are Israel, Serbia and Montenegro, Moldova and Germany.
The best airports
The best airports are Stockholm Bromma, Tenerife North and Tallinn. Eight out of ten planes leave the airports there as planned.
If one compares the numbers from Eurocontrol with the previous year, the numbers for this year are about 15 percent worse. The situation was worse on July 2, when 47 per cent of flights per week took off on time.
