Detaje Kambundji easily qualified for the semi-finals at the World Championships in Budapest in the 100-meter hurdles heats.
In her qualifiers, the 21-year-old Swiss ranked third with a time of 12.71 seconds.
The semi-finals will be held in the 100-meter hurdles on Wednesday evening, and the final on Thursday.
Detaje Kambunji was the only Swiss to compete at the World Championships in Budapest on Tuesday night. In the pre-100-meter hurdles, she was required to finish at least fourth in her heat in order to reach the semi-finals. The Bernese citizen completed this task with confidence.
At 12.71 seconds, she stayed well above the Swiss record (12.47 seconds), but even this time was enough to secure third place in her heat. Jasmine Camacho Quinn (PUR) and Nadine Visser (NED) ran fastest.
“tough race”
In the aftermath, Kambundji was satisfied with the direct qualification, but not yet entirely with its performance. “It was a tough ride and I didn’t want to take any risks,” she said after the race. But she also liked the scenery: “It’s beautiful here, but I got a little nervous when I got on the track.”
Kambungi continues on Wednesday evening with the semi-final match. And the 21-year-old will be even more of a challenge there if she is to reach her first World Cup final. This goes up Thursday evening. You can follow both sessions live on SRF.
