Dominic Stricker got off to a false start in qualifying for the US Open. Lost the first set 6:3 to Alexis Gallarno (CAN/ATP 207). Then the Swiss (ATP 127) improved things a bit. Stricker won Rounds 2 and 3 6:2, 6:0 and secured the advance to the second of three qualifying rounds in 91 minutes. There he competes with Lamas Ruiz (ESP/ATP 146).
Naif has to fight
In the women’s category, Victoria Golubic, Celine Nayef and Simona Waltert qualified for the second round. Golubic (WTA Championship 136) beat Mari Stojana (USA/WTA Championship 577) in 93 minutes 6:3 6:4 and now meets Sachia Vickery (USA/WTA 203) . Walter (WTA 151) beat Mona Barthel (GER/WTA 251) 6:2, 6:4. Her next opponent is Laura Siegmund (GER/WTA 108). Naif (WTA 161) had to battle Yulia Starodubtsywa (UKR/WTA 201) for almost three hours before success was certain 5:7, 6:4, 6:4. She is now facing Katie Volinets (USA/WTA 127).
Alexander Richard, Jill Tishman and Yelena N Albon have already left. Leandro Redi will only play on Wednesday.
