Ski Jumping: Deschwanden’s Constant, Pierre with premiere

Gregor Deschwandin finished in the top 20 for the third time in the third World Cup competition in Sapporo (Japan). After places 10 and 15, the Lucerne native has now finished 20th with jumps of 129.5 and 185.5 metres. Meanwhile, Killian Pierre earned his first World Cup point of the season with a 30th-place finish. The Vaud native, who was knocked out in the heats on Friday and in the first round on Saturday, has improved over the weekend. On Sunday, the 27-year-old was 21st after the first jump (132.5m), but completely missed contact in the final (98.5m). Local champion Ryoyu Kobayashi took the win ahead of Halvor Egner Granerud (NOR) and Markus Eisenbichler (GER).

Skycross: Smith is fourth

At their second World Cup race in Idre Fjäll, Sweden, the Swiss ski models missed out on the podium. After the second place from the previous day Fanny Smith had to be content with fourth place. In the final she finished second for a long time and then fell behind the podium. The second best Swiss, Sixteen Cuisine, was sixth. Of course, the local champion Sandra Naslund won, for the Swede this is the fifteenth success in a row. The injury-plagued Swiss men were disappointing: Joss Perry and Marc Bischofberger were unable to continue beyond the round of 16. Canadian Reece Howden beat Erik Moberg (Sweden) and Tobias Müller (Germany).

Universiade: Bätschi took bronze

On the penultimate day of the university, alpine skier Florina Bacci took bronze in the parallel giant slalom. The 19-year-old from Fernfachhochschule Schweiz outperformed all her races up to the semi-finals, but had to concede defeat to Carmen Cainz (AUT), who finished second later, and finally triumphed in the bronze race. In Lake Placid (USA) it is already the tenth medal for Switzerland.
