USA and Jamaica continue to win the Gold Cup

The USA and Jamaica secured their places in the quarter-finals of the FIFA Gold Cup with crushing victories. The United States swept Trinidad and Tobago 6-0 in their third Group A match in Charlotte on Sunday, while the Jamaicans stunned Saint Kitts and Nevis 5-0 in Santa Clara. The two teams finished the first stage of the tournament with seven points. In Group B, Qatar finished second with a 1-0 win over group winners Mexico.

Jesus Ferreira was notable for his hat-trick (14, 38, 45+3) in the American uniform. The 22-year-old FC Dallas forward scored a hat-trick in his second consecutive international cap and secured himself a place in the history books at a rate never before seen by any American player. After 21 matches in the team’s clothes, he has already scored 14 goals – for the third time he has scored three or more goals in one match.

The remaining goals went to Cady Coyle (66), Gianluca Bosio (79) and Brandon Vazquez (95). Qatar’s only goal came from Hazem Shehata (27). Katari finished in second place, equal on points, ahead of Honduras, while Haiti finished one point behind after being defeated 2-1 by Honduras.
