Traffic lights are off at Charlottenplatz all week – the lights will also be turned off on Berliner Platz on Wednesday. We explain what’s behind it.

Faulty traffic lights have again caused traffic disruptions in Stuttgart. After traffic lights on Charlottenplatz were faulty for several days, the lights went out on Berliner Platz on Wednesday. “Colleagues are organizing traffic,” a Stuttgart police spokeswoman said this afternoon. (Status: 4 pm). The reason was initially unclear.

Shortly before that, Sven Matisse, the city’s press spokesman, reported that damage to the traffic lights at Charlottenplatz had been repaired. The excavator is responsible for the whole story.

How did the disturbance happen?

The disturbance arose when an excavator damaged a traffic light cable at the pedestrian crossing over Konrad-Adenauer-Straße in Ulrichstraße, that is, near the state parliament, on Monday. “It caused a kind of chain reaction,” says Sven Matisse, a city spokesman. The traffic lights on Charlottenplatz gradually stopped working properly.

An attempt to lay a cable to bridge the damage on Tuesday failed. For this reason, part of the lanes in the square were closed on Wednesday in order to be able to repair the damage to the traffic lights at Charlottenplatz.
