A new Youtube video shows a graphical comparison between the 2022 demo and the new Starfield demo. Now a little discussion has been made on graphics about whether there are just upgrades or downgrades too.
After Microsoft and Bethesda presented a demo of a new sci-fi RPG Starfield during the Xbox Game Show, a YouTuber made a graphic comparison between this demo and a previous game demo from 2022. While on one hand some gamers would like to note a significant improvement in some aspects , it is possible that developer Bethesda has also downgraded the graphics on the other hand, which, of course, sparked a small graphics discussion about Starfield.

The new Starfield: flat facial expressions and lifeless eyes
Starfield graphics comparison between the 2022 and 2023 demos was taken from the Youtube account Seiko 1 published. At first glance, the faces of the characters have lost detail for many players. While the 2022 demo has faces that look very lively with expressive facial expressions in direct comparison, the characters’ faces in the new demo appear somewhat flat and expressionless. Facial hair looks unreal and eyes look lifeless.

So having to put up with Release Edition graphical downgrades, Bethesda has also toughened up other areas. For example, the game environment, which also received new high-quality elements – such as new fog or lighting effects. While some players have noticed that some color filters for locations have changed, it should also be noted that time within the game world for individual demos varies.
But maybe that’s all just part of a consideration – Bethesda is clearly buying the tech resources to spruce up Starfield’s environmental effects with slightly reduced character representation. We’ll see if players can come to terms with that in three months’ time, because Starfield launches on September 6, 2023.
