The German Davis Cup team travels to China for the group stage

The German tennis men have to travel to China to participate in the group stage of the Davis Cup. In Zhuhai, the German Tennis Federation teams will face the United States, Slovakia and Chile, as revealed by the draw held in London. The group stage will be held from September 10 to 15 with the participation of 16 countries.

“The Zhuhai stadium is not ideal for all the countries in our group,” team president Michael Coleman said. “It will be a big effort, especially for the players who are going away at the US Open, because the first match day is Tuesday.” The US Open in New York, as the third Grand Slam tournament, does not end until September 8th. China is the only place at this stage of competition outside Europe. Bologna, Manchester and Valencia are also the places.

Goal: Finals in Malaga

The best two teams in the four groups will qualify for the final round of the prestigious team competition, which will be held in Malaga next November. The German team coached by Coleman is ranked in the Davis Cup at the top of Group C. “One can only guess at the moment how the countries will line up. But based on our successes in recent years, our goal should be to reach the finals in Malaga,” Coleman said.
