The World Cup title fight in Chatel, France, got off to an excellent start for Switzerland.

At the 43rd World Junior Championships, Swiss youngster Livio Hiltbrand performed better than last year. After a bronze medal in 2023, the 20-year-old was crowned junior champion in the first downhill category in Chatel.

Thanks to convincing driving, Hiltbrand took 0.35 seconds or more out of the competition. The other medals went to Italy: Gregorio Bernardi took the silver medal ahead of his teammate Max Berathoner. In fourth place, Lenz Hachler of Zug missed the podium by 5 hundredths. Philipp Kalin concluded the Swiss team's strong result with sixth place.

Swiss-Ski thus made a big statement in the first of 11 decisions. As first place in last year's medal table, we have 3 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze to defend.

The opportunity for further success comes on Tuesday: the prospects for women's downhill skiing are also bright thanks to defending champion Stephanie Grubb.
