The first leaks of Nvidia’s portable RTX 4000 graphics cards are circulating and the performance is expected to be high. For the first time one wants to clearly distinguish the nomenclature from desktop chips, on which the chips are based. In the high-end area, there is talk of the RTX 4090 Mobile with the AD103 chip. Read more about this below.
Nvidia heralded the beginning of the Ada Lovelace generation with the Geforce RTX 4090. The Geforce RTX 4090 has outperformed all previous models of the Ampere generation and has reached a new level of performance that cannot be fully utilized by many current processors. The graphics card has a TDP of 450W and is efficient, but still power hungry. The AD102 GPU used is only suitable for desktop graphics cards and cannot be used for mobile graphics cards.

However, Nvidia is already planning motion graphics solutions based on the new architecture. But this time, it looks like the manufacturer wants to use SKUs other than those in the desktop area. For the first time in the recent past, the label no longer resembles desktop models. It appears that Nvidia is currently planning four different GPUs and five different SKUs. Designations are GN21 X2, X4, X6 and X9. They are chronologically based on 107 AD, 106 AD, 104 AD, and 103 AD.
With the AD103 mobile, which would then run as the GN21-X9, the RTX 4090 mobile should become possible. This should be bootable with a TDP of 175W, thus becoming one of the fastest new mobile cards. Models with the AD104 chip should also be able to operate with a TDP of up to 175W, although of course there should also be smaller extensions with a TDP of 140W, for example.
AMD should also be able to grow significantly in the mobile segment, and according to @greymon55, the fastest mobile chipset should reach the level of the current desktop flagship Radeon RX 6950 XT. So far, it is not entirely clear what name the chips will be released and what expansions they will launch. However, for both manufacturers, more information is expected in the course of CES 2023 in early January.
