The car will debut in Great Britain in 2024

(Motorsport-Total.com) – A new era dawns at Saber. Not only that, the Hinwil Formula 1 team will compete under a different name in 2024 after the partnership with Alfa Romeo ends. A planned launch would also break tradition.

So far, Sauber has always fielded its Formula 1 cars in Austria, Germany and – mostly – Switzerland. The 2023 C43 was unveiled at an event held at the team’s headquarters in Zurich and Hinwil.

But the team never let their guard down in England. But that will change for the 2024 season, Alessandro Alunni revealed at the Bravi Autosport Awards.

He added: “We will have a very fresh approach to communication marketing and we will launch the car in the UK.”

The first hint of a new team name

Sauber has worked with Alfa Romeo for the past six years. For five years the team competed under the Italian manufacturer name. “This year we ended our successful partnership with Alfa Romeo,” says Alunni Bravi. “And for 2024 we’ll have a different team name.”

It represents a new business collaboration with a foreign partner. He didn’t want to divulge anything yet, the team rep continued. One thing is certain: Sauber will compete as an Audi Works team from 2026, but the logos and name of the Audi brand will not appear until then.

In its final season as Alfa Romeo, the team scored just 16 points, finishing second in the Constructors’ Championship for the second time in three seasons. The team finished the previous year in sixth place.

Transformation process in full swing

When asked about the upcoming changes to the Sauber team over the next twelve months, Alunni Bravi says: “Of course we are working very hard on the transformation process. We are still a small team, an independent team, but the challenge is big.”

“That’s why we’re working to improve every area, every department. It’s not just about size, it’s about finding the right people.”

“The toughest challenge for us is finding the best professionals and setting the right process in motion,” says Alunni Bravi. “Many things can be bought, but not time. We know this challenge. Managing expectations can be one of the most demanding tasks.”
