A major automaker has been given a new name. We summarize the reasons here.
SsangYong, South Korea’s fourth-largest automaker, was forced to file for bankruptcy in December 2021 after years of financial trouble. In the fall of 2022, the KG Mobility consortium took over the group and thus managed to save the company from its final demise.

Accordingly, the company should bear the name KG Mobility in the future. According to the manufacturer, the change has been effective since March 22, 2023. However, the SsangYong name has not completely disappeared yet. Currently both names can still be seen on communication channels such as the Korean website.
SsangYong was founded in 1954, but at that time it was still under the name Ha Dong-hwan Motor Workshop. The manufacturer’s name was not changed to SsangYong until 1986.
