Taylor Swift topped the British music charts on Friday with her new album “The Tortured Poets Department,” selling more copies than any other top ten. They also broke the record of the Beatles with twelve number one albums in the shortest time in the UK.
The Poets achieved the most successful opening week for an album in the UK in seven years. Swift joins Madonna as the artist with the UK number one albums.
It said, “No other artist has released twelve number one albums in such a short period of time. Taylor Swift did it in eleven years and six months.” “That beats The Beatles, who achieved the feat by 14 years and one month.” Swift's first single, “Fortnite”, a collaboration with Post Malone, reached number one on the UK Singles Chart.
“Poets” topped the charts in Australia and the US. Shortly after its release last Friday, Spotify and Amazon Music reported that it was the most streamed album of the day. On Wednesday, Spotify announced that “Poets” was the most-streamed album of the week, surpassing one billion streams.
