The two Swiss teams were eliminated early from the Swiss Cup. The victory was won by an overwhelming majority for the American duo Carey/Muldaur.
The Swiss senior team with Christian Baumann and Annie Wu had high hopes after a successful first round. The 26-year-old from Aargau showed an excellent exercise with the parallel bar, convincing the 20-year-old on the floor, and the pair were in second place.
But the two were unable to repeat the good performance on the second device. Both Bowman (on the rings) and Wu (on the uneven bars) fell, putting qualification to the semifinals out of reach. The duo finished eighth.
Even Stefanie Siegenthaler and Florian Langenegger, who made up the second Swiss team, finished last in the competition. The 25-year-old gymnast was particularly responsible for this, as an improper exercise on the uneven bars only gave her 11,350 points. Langenegger couldn’t prevent elimination from the jump. Thanks to two successful jumps, he scored 14,300 points. In the end, the pair were more than 0.7 points behind Turkey, which was the last team to reach the second round.
Victory for the United States of America
The United States took the victory, with Olympic floor champions Jade Carey and Yul Moldauer first. The duo defeated the Japanese team Chiaki Hatakeda/Kazuma Kaya in the final. Carey made the difference on vault, scoring 0.625 points more than her opponent. In the small final for third place, Brazil, with Julia Soares and Patrick Sampaio, defeated Italy (Manila Esposito/Yomin Abadini).
