Liverpool is the new second in the English Premier League table. The Reds around coach Jurgen Klopp finally won the home game against newly promoted Brentford club 3-0 (1-0) after initial problems. Still without star strikers Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in the Liverpool squad, who were in the Africa Cup of Nations, it took until the 44th minute before Liverpool scored for the first time with a Fabinho header. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored the other goals (69) and substitute Takumi Minamino (77). Thanks to the first trio of the year, Liverpool outperformed Chelsea, who lost 1-0 to league leaders Manchester City the day before. With fewer matches played than ManCity, LFC is eleven points behind in first place.

Leeds climbed to 15th place after their second successive win, West Ham remained fourth with 37 points but played far more matches than the competition. After matches to catch up with Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United, there is a risk of falling to seventh place.
