Yard fence (pellet). Last winter, Sonhof's Simon Breitfus Kammerlander won the overall classification of the World Professional Ski Tour. However, this season he does not recognize the already attractive racing series. After conditions were borderline early in the season in Aspen, that hasn't changed recently at Bear Valley either. Contrary to Pitzthaler's expectations, things were worse in California.
It was honestly a disaster from start to finish. Organizers first prepared the slope with water, then rushed over it with a roller – and eventually the entire surface collapsed. I then did the first lap in the giant slalom, but then pulled out after some of the runners in front of me got loose. Some of them were also seriously injured. “This slippery slope, poor visibility and winds with a maximum speed of 100 kilometers per hour – the competition had to be cancelled,” says Breitfus Kammerlander.
The next day he finished a duel with Norwegian Joachim Melde in the slalom. “That's why I don't get frustrated anymore, because it's not fun under these conditions,” says Breitfus Kammerlander. Back at home, Pitztal now asks himself the question of meaning: “To be honest, I don't know at the moment whether I will return to the Tour again. Of course everyone has to drive under these conditions. But I have the impression that it's all about.” “Have fun and party. And that's not my world. If it snows during the night, I expect work on the slopes won't start until 8 a.m. Logically it can't be put into proper condition for racing.”
