FC Lugano missed the start of the new year. The Ticino team lost 3-2 at home to the bottom team, Stade Lausanne-Ouchy, in the 19th round of the Premier League. In the second Sunday match, FC Zurich and Basel played without goals.

Zurich – Basel 0-0

The home team owned the first half, while the visitors owned the second half. However, the Clásico, which had been grueling for long periods, became very hot after the final whistle. Rodrigo Conceição clashed with Basel's new signing Nicolas Vueloz and sparked a mob formation, with Fabio Celestini eventually receiving a red-yellow card.

The Basel coach received the first warning in stoppage time when he complained violently after 19-year-old Romeo Bini was sent off. Celestini was particularly upset by the first yellow card his student received, which was perhaps too harsh. Benny only entered in the 77th minute and left the field prematurely, crying, a quarter of an hour later.

There wasn't much going on in terms of sports in Letzgrund. Zurich got off to a better start, but came up short again and again due to Basel goalkeeper Marwin Hitz. Centre-back Leandret Kamberi wasted the best opportunity, as he headed the ball alone from a corner kick, but put it near the goal.

Basel found their way into the game better in the second half. But it was rarely truly convincing. The big exception was in the 57th minute, when Tierno Barry took a free kick from five meters but was unable to put the ball past Yannick Brecher. Anton Kade's shot was also well blocked by Zurich's goalkeeper.

FC Zurich remained without a win in the second match against Basel this season. Bo Henriksen's team was waiting to win four matches in the Premier League and lost contact with second-placed St. Gallen. Bayern remains in second place from last.

Lugano – Stade Lausanne-Ouchy 2:3

Bottom team Stade Lausanne-Ouchy won 3-2 thanks to great quality and luck in the contest. Despite leading 3-0 at the end of the first half, the visitors had to tremble until the last second, but in the end they stole three very important points from Cornaredo.

The French-speaking Swiss team impressed in Ticino with its efficiency in the first half. After just 35 minutes and goals from new signing Gabriel Kyeremating via penalty kicks, Mischa Eberhard and Ismael Gharbi, the score was 0-3 to the visitors. The fact that the match turned out to be a shaky affair for the French-speaking Swiss side had its origins in the red card against Gharbi: the Paris Saint-Germain loanee was sent off shortly after the start of the second half after a strong challenge on Mattia Botani.

The Ticino team quickly scored the first goal and pressed hard to achieve the deserved equalizer after the goal. Despite many opportunities, they are no longer able to achieve this.
