With AI, planning your next trip to the city using Google Maps should be easier.
no time? Blue News sums it up for you
- Google has announced a number of new features for its Maps app that are particularly useful for city trips.
- For example, a restaurant's reviews are summarized using artificial intelligence.
- Recommendation lists also aim to make city highlights quickly identifiable.
Google Maps is the most popular mapping app out there. The majority of smartphone users rely on them when they have to navigate through foreign countries and cities. But sometimes the app can seem a little confusing.
Google wants to address this. Popular restaurants, museums, or attractions often have hundreds if not thousands of reviews. It can be difficult to quickly understand what makes a site so special. Artificial intelligence must now help here.
Reviews have been summarized
Google AI is supposed to summarize all the reviews and explain the essence of the place in a short summary. If users upload photos of a restaurant's food, the AI should automatically recognize the dish and how much it costs.
Google Maps also offers new, curated recommendations lists for city trips. One list should showcase the city's most important sights, another list current hotspots, and finally there's a list with insider tips. The listings are initially available for 40 cities in the USA and Canada, but will later be expanded to other countries.
