More space for school supervision – Schallstadt

Basic batch care now has new rooms. The construction project cost the community €1.8 million. The 83 children and their caregivers now benefit from more space and lots of wood.

83 children benefit from care provided by the Essential Time Society, called Kerni. Tight spaces, difficult acoustics and outdated buildings have been a thing of the past for a few weeks now. Jakob Rotenauer, who heads up the Kearney team, reports that the suitability of the new rooms was recently tested during Carnival sponsorship. “It showed what rooms can take.” In fact, everyone felt a significant difference in terms of noise alone, says Rotenauer. Appropriate insulation and walls made of large planks, replacing a classic or rough concrete wall, showed their effect. Regarding indoor climate: Now the air is much better, says Rottenauer. The wooden walls also created a warm atmosphere, as confirmed by Mayor Sebastian Case during a tour of the new building. Society paid a lot for the rooms – about 1.8 million euros. An annexe with direct access to the school has been built next to the existing primary school building. The lower floor is sturdily built, and the upper floor is made of wood, architect Stoll reports.

Everyone now benefits from the immediate proximity to the school. According to Stoll, it quickly became clear that they wanted to use this synergy. The spaces for children are now short and the primary school can also use the Kerni’s rooms, for example as specialist music rooms, if they are not needed in the morning.

In addition, the rooms are so large that they can be used as normal classrooms if needed. In addition, the primary school can now be accessed barrier-free via the stairs and lift built into it in the annexe. In the long term, the flat roof makes it possible to add another story, if necessary, according to architect Stoll.

Children can now use 400 square meters in the annex, including a new kitchenette and spacious toilets. Kerni used to own a quarter of the current acreage, Chief Welfare reports. But the club and demand have evolved dramatically in recent years, says Mayor Case. More and more families are taking advantage of childcare services at times when the children are between the ages of six and eleven, ie in the morning before lessons start, in the afternoon and sometimes in the early evening and during holidays.

The extension should actually be completed in July and used at the start of the school year in summer 2022, according to a report by Mayor Sebastian Case. But often you had to wait for fully booked workshops, says architect Stoll.

The construction site is not yet completely finished. The outside area is still decorated with craters and large mountains of gravel. But during the spring, the garden area must also be finished. The first garden shed has already been set up and the little bed that the children can plant themselves and see what grows when and how is already set up.
