Rome Isola di San Biagio is located on the western shore of Lake Garda. When the tide is low you can walk to the island, but in some places you are usually too deep in the water. Recent videos and photos show a white bridge on which tourists walk, with only their feet wet.
Lake Garda has less water than it did 70 years ago, and according to the latest satellite imagery, it only reaches about 40 percent of its capacity. At around 370 square kilometres, Lake Garda is the largest inland water body in Italy – and as a freshwater reservoir, it is extremely important for food production in the north of the country. The Mincio River connects Lake Garda with the Po River, one of the main lifelines for farmers and rice growers.
