Incentives to increase flights, Thailand, Bangkok

BANGKOK: Airport operator Airports of Thailand (AOT) Plc wants to offer more incentives to airlines to support the government’s visa exemption for four nationalities.

Siroj Duangrat, Deputy Director General of AOT, revealed that the incentives include reductions of a maximum of 75 percent on landing fees for airlines offering additional flights. This measure has been in effect since September 7, 2023. In addition, each airline will be given a discount of 175 baht on take-off and landing fees per passenger. These discounts are valid from November 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024.

AOT had previously offered airlines deep discounts if they opened new routes. The new measures apply to six international airports operated by AOT, namely Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang in Bangkok, Mae Fah Luang in Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Hat Yai.

The new incentives will be offered under AOT’s performance-based incentive plan, which covers scheduled international flights, private flights and charter flights, Siroj said. To encourage tourism, the government is granting free 30-day visas to tourists from China, Kazakhstan, India and Taiwan from now until the end of February 2024.
