German surfers are ranked first in the world

After placing well in this year’s Surf Fishing World Cup, which was held in South Africa, Sebastien Leklum and Fabien Frenzel can look forward to another success. The two sea anglers, who compete as a German team side by side, are currently ranked number one in the FIPS-M world rankings. This makes them officially the best surf duo in the world.

With a significant lead in the first position

In the World Fishing Championships, organized annually by the FIPS International Federation, two fishermen compete as a team to catch the most fish and thus achieve the highest score. Sebastian and Fabian now have first place overall with consistently good placements in recent years.

They won the 2019 World Championship outright, while finishing seventh, third and fifth over the next few years. Each rank is assigned a percentage (i.e. first place = 100%). A place in the world rankings is calculated from the sum of all percentage points divided by the number of World Cups held. Since German hunters did not participate in the 2018 World Cup, this year they get 0%. The total value of the duo is around 69% – that puts them in first place by a huge margin.

Their closest competitors are Sandro Guerrero and Andre Dias from Portugal who are in second place with 37.36%. In third place is the French team consisting of Frédéric Joubert and Jonathan Seleslag, who scored 30.52%.

In a social media post, Sebastian thanked his longtime friend and fishing partner Fabian, his family and the entire German surf team. Congratulations also from our fishing editorial team!

FIPS tops the global ranking of the best anglers

The World Surf Fishing Championships are organized every year by FIPS, the “International Sport Fishing Federation” (International Sport Fishing Federation). The umbrella organization for all sport anglers in the world was founded in 1952 and organizes other fishing tournaments around the world.

The 5th World Surf Fishing Championship was held in Sardinia from 15th to 22nd April. The next World Cup will be held in 2024 on a body of water in Spain. We wish Sebastian and Fabian all the best in maintaining their place in the world rankings!
