Frozen salmon is available from a wide range of manufacturers, from organic to inexpensive and name-brand products. The experts at SWR Marktcheck tested the following six products:
Wild salmon:
- Wild Pacific salmon, good and cheap, Edeka own brand (about €3.99/250g)
- Golden Seafood Wild Salmon, Aldi Süd own brand (about €3.99 / 250g)
- Wild Costa salmon fillet (about €9.99/250g)
Aquaculture farmed salmon:
- Ocean Sea Salmon Fillet, Lidl own brand (about €5.99/250g)
- DeutscheSee Salmon fillets (about €7.02 / 250g)
- FollowFood Organic salmon fillets (about €14.05 / 250g)
In comparison, most farmed salmon products performed well.
When it came to wild salmon, Costa's expensive branded product was clearly at the forefront. However, when it came to Edeka's own brand, testers' opinions differed: some found it too dry, while others found it “okay” in terms of taste. Overall, the restaurant owner and the three diners reached a unanimous verdict.
Of all six salmon, enjoy the one Lidl's farmed salmon is the best It was recorded with a juicy texture and pleasant aroma: ocean sea salmon fillet.
