Two firefighters were injured in a large blaze in the Europa-Park in Rust, near Freiburg. Police said she was slightly injured during firefighting work on Monday. Accordingly, a fire broke out in the technical room. A spokesperson for the family business added that it showed up around 4:40pm on Monday and was taken over by a large group of firefighters. District fire chief Bernhard Frey said about 400 firefighters, rescue service and police forces had been deployed.

She added that the park was cleaned quickly and in an orderly manner. According to the information, the overnight guests were able to return to the hotels promptly. The company did not initially provide any information about the extent of the damage.

“The security mechanisms – such as fire alarms and alert plans – worked smoothly in accordance with the current situation,” the police said. Visitors were directly addressed by the security service and told to leave the park.

The park notified the SMS service Twitter of an incident: “We are working closely with the responsible authorities and emergency services.” Police said on Twitter that fire, rescue and police forces were working. Officials appealed to “please follow the instructions of the emergency services at the site.”

The park should reopen normally on Tuesday – the affected attractions must remain closed to visitors.

Europa-Park is the largest amusement park in Germany. Last year, more than six million people came to the facility with roller coasters and other attractions in the Ortenau region near the German-French border – it was a record.

There was already a big fire there on May 26, 2018: Most of the Scandinavian and Dutch-themed areas fell victim to the fire. Restaurants, shops and the “Pirates of Batavia” ride were destroyed. According to the Public Prosecutor, the fire was caused by a technical defect and affected millions of people.

Seven policemen and firefighters sustained minor injuries. About 500 women and men participated in the operation. There were about 25,000 visitors to the amusement park that day. After more than two years, «Pirates in Batavia» has reopened. (dpa)
