Italy beat Australia 2-0 in the Davis Cup final to win the title for the second time.
Led by the excellent Janic Sinner, Italy won the final in Malaga after two individual matches against Australia. The 22-year-old South Tyrolean (ATP 4), who defeated Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals, clearly won the second fight against Alex de Minaur (ATP 12). After 1:21 hours, a 6:3, 6:0 victory over Australia and Italy’s second Davis Cup win since 1976 was assured.
Sinner won all three singles in the final in the south of Spain, where, as has been the case for some years, the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final are played within a week. Together with Lorenzo Soneko, he also won two decisive doubles against the Netherlands and Serbia.
Matteo Arnoldi led Italy to victory in the first individual tournament. He won 7:5, 2:6, 6:4 after a two-and-a-half-hour battle against world number 44 Alexey Paprin (ATP 40).
