In the American qualifiers, former Bundesliga striker Bobby Wood sent his team Real Salt Lake City to the next round.
Hamburg / Salt Lake City – So he can still do it! Former German Bundesliga striker Bobby Wood (29, u Hamburger SV And Hannover 96He became the champion for his team, Real Salt Lake City, in the Major League Soccer (MLS) Playoffs.
In the quarter-final against Sporting Kansas City, the 29-year-old scored the much-acclaimed winning goal in stoppage time (min. 90+1) to make it 2-1. Wood was only replaced in the 72nd minute.
In an earlier round, the former HSV flop had a big share in his team’s Round of 16 victory against the Seattle Sounders. On penalties, he was the fourth player on his team and was converted. Real Salt Lake City finally won by 6:5 nE.
The two most recent games give the impression that Wood can find a way back to the path of success.
HSV rewarded themselves with a triple task against Ingolstadt for ‘further development’
For a long time things were not going well for the 29-year-old. After leaving Hamburg at the beginning of April, having been without a target for more than 1,000 days, he also faced major problems at his new club.
At first he was not in the team, then he was able to play the role only as a substitute. Wood was rarely allowed to play right from the start, and when he did, he didn’t score in the MLS either. The list scored only two goals after the preliminary round in 17 matches.
There is no comparison to his most successful season (2015/2016) in then-second division Union Berlin, where he fired 17 stalls in 32 matches.
The Hawaiian-born experienced the height of passive sports in October when he was relayed to the Real Monarchs ranch team and replaced at the age of 13 an hour later.
Or maybe this was a turning point for Wood. Since then, he’s been back on the field at MLS – again only as a substitute, but now, in the playoffs, he’s shown how important he is to the team.
