The Swiss women’s relay teams secure their starting places in the 2022 World Championships in Eugene (USA) in the World Relay Championship qualifiers in Poland at a distance of 4 x 100 m and 4 x 400 m.
For the 4 x 400m team in Chorzo, it was about qualifying for the Olympic Games as well as for the World Cup in July 2022 in the western United States. Out of 14 countries, Silk Leimens, Rachel Bellaud, Veronica Fancardo and Anina Farr picked the ninth best time in 3: 34.85 minutes.
This secured Switzerland’s second consecutive participation in the World Cup Finals. The Swiss national team missed Sunday’s final match and the accompanying Olympic qualification without the best players, Lea Spranger and Jasmine Geiger, were absent. However, coach Peter Haas’ team still had a chance to be there in Tokyo. The remaining three starting places will be allocated based on the best times during the qualification period.
Sprint confidently follows the final
The 4x100m team with Ricarda Deitch, Salome Cora, Cornelia Halper and Cynthia Renley clinched a place in the final on Sunday with their fourth best time. At the same time, they also secured Switzerland’s place in the World Cup, and were already sure of Olympic qualification.
