Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik, attended by tens of thousands of his supporters, demonstrated in Banja Luka against the recount of votes in the presidential elections in the Republic of Serbia in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“I am here tonight to tell you that Milorad Dodik is not going anywhere. Milorad Dodik will be in the presidential palace very soon,” said Dodik in the center of the de facto capital of Republika Srpska.
Bosnia’s Central Election Commission (CIK) has ordered a recount of votes in the October 2 presidential election. According to the preliminary result, Dodik won the election with 48 percent of the vote. The percentage of the opposition candidate, Jelena Trevik, was 43 percent.
The results of the recount are expected to be released by the end of the week. Suad Arnautovic, head of the Elections Committee, warned of a “massive number of violations of the electoral law” and “unprecedented pressures on the electoral commission.”
Dodik aspires to his third term as President of the Republic of Serbia. The 63-year-old has been the leader of the Bosnian Serbs for more than 15 years.
